Test models

These are my first attempts of the main character in different stages of its life and the animation. The final models will be made of fresh clay which will improve their looks and quality. I still need to try and make an egg and possibly its parents.

Story board

My story will start off with a family of penguins, they have a baby but abandon the egg. When the egg hatches the baby is sad and alone. He then starts to kill the other animals around him.

I made this collage to research the different types of arctic life and what they look like, this will help me when it comes to making the animation

Model Animation

Claymation; How it works.

Claymation is done by making characters out of Plasticine clay, you then use a camera to take a picture of the model moving how ever you want. When played back as long as you have it about 10 frames per second it will play back smoothly and look very convincing like it was really moving. Having 10 frames per-second means that the model will only move very slightly each frame, the slower it moves the better the finished product will look. This can be seen as Cell animation but with 3D models as the basic principles are the same, such as the slower it moves the smoother it looks when played back.

Nick Park's A Grand Day Out 1989

This claymation was made in 1989 by Nick Parks. Wallace and Gromit is still being shown today and have made many more TV programs and films. In 2005 the factory where Wallace and Gromit was made burnt down and many of their models were lost. The problem with this type of animation is that if someone goes wrong in a scene, for example you knock the model over and its arm moves, it will be very difficult to get it back to its correct shape and could result in the entire animation being ruined.

Creature Comforts 1989

Creature comforts was made as a short film by the same people that made Wallace and Gromit. It is basically about them going around and interviewing animals and they all have very simple but funny replies. This program is still watched by thousands on the internet and is sometimes put on TV.

Morph 1977

Morph is a Plasticine character of a children  program called Morph. It was made by Tony Hart and was a very popular among young children. Morph can still be found on TV today still as a children show and can also be found on the internet. The name of the character was simply chosen because he had the ability to morph into what ever he wanted.
